Seasonal Car Maintenance for Coweta Drivers

Coweta weather is hard on vehicles — 100° summers, sudden ice storms, and long stretches of red-dirt highway. After more than a decade serving families in the area, here's the maintenance schedule we actually recommend to friends and neighbors.

Summer (May – September)

Oklahoma heat is the #1 killer of tires and batteries. Above 95°, tire pressure spikes and old rubber fails fast.

  • Check tire pressure monthly — hot pavement + underinflation = blowouts on the Muskogee Turnpike.
  • Inspect tread depth. If you can see Lincoln's whole head on a penny, it's time for new tires.
  • Test the battery. Heat kills batteries faster than cold — most Coweta batteries last 3–4 years, not 5.
  • Top off coolant and check for leaks before the first 100° day.
  • Consider a full synthetic oil change to handle the heat better.

Winter (December – February)

Coweta doesn't get Colorado winters, but a single ice storm on Highway 51 will find every weak spot on your vehicle.

  • Check tread depth again — worn tires on icy roads are the top cause of winter accidents locally.
  • Have your brakes inspected. Wet, cold pavement doubles your stopping distance.
  • Switch to a winter-weight or full-synthetic oil for easier cold starts.
  • Keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid fuel-line freeze on the coldest nights.
  • Test the battery again — cold snaps expose batteries that summer already weakened.

Year-Round Basics

  • Oil change every 3,000–5,000 miles for conventional, 7,500–10,000 for full synthetic.
  • Rotate tires every other oil change.
  • Replace brake pads before the metal-on-metal grinding starts — it saves your rotors.
  • Wash the undercarriage after any icy weather to slow rust from road salt.
  • Keep a basic emergency kit in your trunk: jumper cables, a flashlight, and a tire gauge.

Local & Family-Owned

We started Country Tire Shop in 2013 washing cars, and today we run two Coweta locations serving families across Wagoner County. When you need honest advice on tires, brakes, or an oil change, stop by — we'll treat your vehicle like it's our own.
